Horseracing
Sponsored by the Nevis Jockey Club, at Indian Castle Race Track, Nevis. The Nevis Jockey Club has scheduled race days throughout the year to coincide with national events or holidays. Race days feature upwards of five events. Participants include horses from Nevis as well as from neighboring islands. Call 869-469-3477.

Dec. 24 - Jan 2: National Carnival, St. Kitts

A spectacle of festivals, queens shows, calypso competitions, parades and street dancing, celebrating ancient traditions with a distinct Caribbean rhythm. The symbols from national folklore, the bull, the clown and masquerade, on brightly colored costumes, parade floats, and band instruments. Carnival Office 869-465-4151.

2 - Carnival Last Lap - This holiday parade day on St. Kitts marks the end of Carnival.

Apr. 13 Good Friday - Kite Flying on both islands as part of the observance of Good Friday

At the Flats of Cole Hill, Nevis, kite flyers gather for this Caribbean-wide tradition. The days previous, a kite-making workshop fosters the airborne art with adults and children. Softball cricket and traditional Easter food round out he day-long party. Contact: 869-469-1992

This festival features a broad and exciting range of musical expression including jazz, R&B, soca, reggae from both local and international artist. Festivities of carnival include Calypso Monarch Competition, Caribbean Talented Teen Competition, J'Ouvert ( a street celebration which begins in the wee hours of the morning of the 26th)

Dec. 31 - Old Year’s Night

Traditionally, Kittitians and Nevisians head to church for midnight services. Some revelers meet at the Shoreline in St. Kitts and have a drink before heading off the fancy balls hosted by the hotels around the island with dancing and partying into the morning.
